Virginia Whitaker’s first baby wasn’t a great sleeper, but she and her husband made it work using a product that’s since been recalled. So, when she found out she was pregnant with Baby #2 she knew she needed a safer place for her little one sleep. Virginia ordered a bassinet that seemed to fit the bill, but as soon as she put her newborn son in it, he ended up smashed up against the side of the bed.

“It totally freaked me out,” she says.

Then, her cousin came to mind. He had recently purchased a baby bed that was supposed to be super safe.

“He said, it’s called SNOO, and it’s worth its weight in gold,” Virginia remembers.

While she hadn’t heard of SNOO before, she was familiar with Dr. Harvey Karp’s work.

“I had his book, and I used all his techniques with my first son. So, when I saw SNOO was created by him, that solidified that yes, I need to do this. He’s the #1 sleep doctor for babies and small children, so that really was a huge motivating factor,” she says. “I ordered one that day, and it was the best thing that could have ever happened to us.”

Virginia felt immediate relief with SNOO, which features a unique swaddle that clips into the bed’s platform and keeps babies on their backs—the only safe sleeping position for infants.

“I felt so much better about him being safe. He was on his back, he wasn’t going anywhere, he was right there. It allowed me to sleep at night. I didn’t have to worry about his safety.”

And, the extra sleep she got was a bonus! After 6 weeks, Virginia’s son was snoozing through the night.

“That was such a game-changer!” she says.

Because Virginia had such a positive experience with SNOO, she waited as long as possible to move her son to a cot… fortunately, it was a smooth transition.

“The transition was unbelievably textbook perfect,” she says. “He had one arm out, then the other arm out, and then we didn’t do a short period of time as they suggest.” (Here’s what you need to know about transitioning SNOO babies to a cot).

She’s since become an enthusiastic champion of SNOO.

“I recommend it to everyone I know and defend its price tag. It is worth every penny and more,” she says. “I just cannot express how grateful I am for this product. It really made the biggest of differences.”

“We had to do IVF to get pregnant, but I told my husband, with this thing I could have had like two more children, it was so easy. It’s a miracle machine.”

It is important that, in preparation for and during breastfeeding, mothers eat a healthy, balanced diet. Combined breast- and bottle-feeding in the first weeks of life may reduce the supply of a mother's breastmilk and reversing the decision not to breastfeed is difficult. If you do decide to use infant formula, you should follow instructions carefully.
